[Seoul, Korea = Christiandaily] Overflowing materialism, moral paralysis and loss of humanity. These belong to the problems that today's Korean Church fails to answer. Pastors and believers are even too often criticized for not being free from such problems.
The Salvation Army Korea (Territorial Commnder : Park Jong-deok) is to launch a holiness movement to deal with the moral crisis and the problems which Korean Church struggles to fight against. The first step is the "National Holiness Retreat for Officers" which will be held from 2 to 5 November at Baekhwasan Training Center of Salvation Army Korea in Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do.
The retreat, prepared for the spiritual development of the officers, will address the "restoration of the holy spiritual army with power of salvation", which Territorial Commander Park Jong-deok has delved into since he took the office.
Park said, "it is fair to say that most of problems of churches come from ministers. So the recovery of the Korean Church may depend on recovery of ministers, their lives of holiness."
The Salvation Army Korea has held "Brengle Holiness Seminar", a regular holiness training program for its officers. However, as holiness emerges as an important issue in the Korean Church and society, the denomination plans to give "National Holiness Retreat for Officers" every two years so that all the officers attend and look back on their lives in light of holiness.
An official of the denomination said, "During the retreat, officers will follow various programs devised for development of holiness such as meditation and silence training."
The denomination hopes to see its movement serve as a catalyst for the spiritual recovery of the Korean Churches and expand to the churches working with the National Council of Churches in Korea, to which it also participates as a member.
